Fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon H. Scott Ellsworth, MD, of the Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance, specializes in treating shoulder disorders at his offices in Leawood, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Ellsworth’s areas of interest include comprehensive management of rotator cuff disorders, shoulder replacement surgery, and shoulder arthroscopy.

Dr. Ellsworth graduated magna cum laude in 2008 from Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. He gained invaluable experience working with a physical therapy group for a year before starting his studies for his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center (UT Health) in Houston, Texas. 

Dr. Ellsworth was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society (AΩA) before his graduation in 2013. For his orthopedic residency, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri, training at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC).

At the end of his residency in 2018, Dr. Ellsworth began a shoulder and elbow surgery fellowship at the prestigious Washington University (WashU) in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2019, he completed his fellowship then returned to Kansas City, having fallen in love with the area during his time there.

In addition to his role at the Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance, Dr. Ellsworth is a clinical associate professor at UMKC School of Medicine in Missouri. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA).

Dr. Ellsworth is one of only a handful of surgeons in the area who’s a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons organization.

When not working, Dr. Ellsworth enjoys most exercise and is active in his church community. He attends his children’s sporting and musical events, and he and his wife enjoy traveling and trying new restaurants. Dr. Ellsworth is a big fan of college football and a die-hard BYU Cougars supporter.
